Gauteng – The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it’s ready all around for the national and provincial elections taking place today.
IEC Commissioner Nomsa Masuku says the special vote days on Monday and Tuesday allowed them to assess problem areas and they will be deploying more police to those areas.
Masuku was speaking at the national Results Operations Centre in Pretoria yesterday.
There were reports of disruptions in various areas including Giyani in Limpopo and Taung in the North West; a province in which police say they will be on high alert and maintain a visible presence.
South Africans will today be casting their votes in what is believed to be the most hotly contested election since the first democratic election in 1994.
Voting stations are scheduled to open at 7a.m. and close at 9 p.m. today, as the country votes for its 6th democratic parliament. – Alex FM, Johannesburg (Edited by Philile Masango)
