Police in Johannesburg have warned residents against public drinking.

Johannesburg Police Spokesperson Xoli Mbele says citizens should know that it is a criminal offence to drink in public and if a person is arrested – their fingerprints will be taken and they will have a criminal record.

The police’s call comes as government continues efforts to reduce alcohol-related incidents in the city.

On Wednesday, city authorities urged residents to drink responsibly.

The city says there was a decline in car crashes during the hard lockdown as most people were working from home.
