The 42-year-old, who was initially reported to be 36 years old, will return to court on the 26th of this month.
Kotoi Vannek appeared in the Warrenton Magistrate’s Court and has been remanded in custody.
He is expected to apply for bail at his next hearing.
He has been charged with premeditated murder.
However, Vannek denies having a hand in the boy’s death.
Monareng was found covered in a box in the suspect’s home in Ikhutseng.
Provincial police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, had gone to a local tuck-shop at the time of his disappearance.
Ramatseba says information from the community led the search party to the suspect’s home.
The acting Northern Cape police commissioner has condemned the incident, which comes amid concerns over high number of women and child murders in the country.
